Make the best of your student years

Samskipnad? What is that?

The Norwegian word samskipnad means something like an organisation or a union. When studying in Norway, your place of study will have a samskipnad – and this organisation is helpful with many practical issues students get into.

The semester fee you pay helps cover some of the samskipnad’s expenses, but the government also funds extensively, as students often do not have the means to cover their own expenses regarding dental health, childcare and so forth.

The samskipnad rents cheap accommodation to students, ranging from tiny flats with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities to large family apartments. In some cities, foreign students have priority.

Your university or høyskole will have information on how to contact your local samskipnad.
